Trump: Final impeachment vote slated for next week

WIKI DAILY__ Recent votes cast, results in favor of the Republicans securing enough votes to reject Dems efforts to extend the impeachment trial. This, paving the way for his widely expected acquittal on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress over his dealings with Ukraine.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, said he expects to “conclude the trial as soon as possible” as the Senate approved the framework to continue the trial on Monday.

After the long awaited debate, the Senate voted 51-49 to stop a Democratic motion to call new witnesses. The vote which came in after strong demands from Democrats to call to stand and testify former national security adviser John Bolton. Two Republicans — Utah Sen. Mitt Romney and Maine Sen. Susan Collins — voted with Democrats.

speaking after the vote, McConnell said__”A vast majority of the U.S. Senate has agreed that the numerous witnesses and over 28,000- pages of documents already in evidence are sufficient to judge and come to a ruling on the case accusations and end this impeachment trial once and for all,” 

Democrats decried the failure of the motion.

“America will remember this day, unfortunately, where the Senate did not live up to its responsibilities, where the Senate turned away from truth and went along with a sham trial,” said Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
