Delaware ZIP Codes

Delaware is a state located in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern regions of the United States. It is bordered to the south and west by Maryland, north by Pennsylvania, and east by New Jersey and the Atlantic Ocean. Delaware is the 39th most extensive, the 6th least populous, but the 6th wealthiest of the 50 United States. Delaware is divided into three counties; from north to south: New Castle, Kent, and Sussex. While the southern two counties have historically been predominantly agricultural, New Castle County has been more industrialized.

Delaware postal code (or ZIP code) is used by the post office to deliver mail within Delaware state. It was established in 1967 and consists of five digits (5). The first two digits represent a city or town, while other three digits are called as zone number. The last digit indicates delivery route or local delivery area within a city or town. The use of a postal code is widely used in the United States and Canada. The purpose of postal codes is to create a unique identifier for each address. The postal code is also called an Intelligent Mail barcode (IMb). This barcode can be scanned by USPS employees to determine if the letter has been delivered.

Postal codes are also useful in determining where mail should be sent. For example, if a person wants to send his or her package to a certain city, he or she can look up the postal code on Google Maps and enter it into their shipping software. The software will then determine which post office has jurisdiction over that area and direct the package there for delivery.
