Truck Driver Duties and Responsibilities

  • Transport finished goods and raw materials
  • Plan and manage distribution to manufacturing plants or retail and distribution centers
  • Inspect vehicles for mechanical items
  • Inspect for safety issues
  • Comply with rules and regulations
  • Collect, analyze and verify delivery instructions
  • Report defects, accidents or violations
  • Perform preventative maintenance
  • Plan best route options
  • Plan and meet delivery schedules
  • Document and log your work expenses

Truck Driver Requirements / Skills / Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience as a Truck Driver
  • 3 years of experience with electronic equipment and software such as GPS, AVL units or CB
  • Ability to drive long hours and travel regularly
  • Good knowledge of truck driving rules and regulations
  • No driving violations
  • Willing to submit to background and drug checks on a regular basis
  • Current truck driving licence

Responsibilities

Tasks

  • Arrange travel, related itineraries and make reservations
  • Load and unload goods
  • Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
  • Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
  • Pay and receive payments for goods
  • Perform brake adjustments
  • Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle
  • Perform preventive maintenance
  • Receive and relay information to central dispatch
  • Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
  • Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo
